Not Reef Tank Suitable

Not Suitable for Fish-Only Tank

Range: Western Central Pacific Ocean: Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and the Philippines.

Size: 3 inches (8 cm)

Natural Environment: Inhabits inshore coral reefs and often found in near soft corals such as mushrooms, at depths between 20 - 65 feet (6 - 20 m) where it feeds strictly on the organisms trapped in the coral’s mucus.

General Husbandry: Has a pale whitish body, with a thin line that runs through the eye.

Taxonomy:

    Order: Gasterosteiformes

    Suborder: Syngnathoidei

    Family: Syngnathidae

    Subfamily: Syngnathinae

    Genus: Siokunichthys

FYI: Not purposely collected for the hobby.

Very rarely accepts regular aquarium foods.

Would require aquariums with soft corals, i.e., mushroom corals, even then, chances of survival are minimum.

Shown here for identification only.
