Range: Tropical East & West Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico to Brazil, and also Indo-West pacific Ocean: Papua New Guinea, Philippines, east to the Great Barrier Reef to the northern coast of Mexico.

Natural Environment: Inhabits tidepools or is found on sandy, calm reef flats. It anchors to sandy bottoms or coral rubble by its creeping rhizoids.

Aquarium Suitability: Has small upright blades, about 1 - 2 inches (2 - 5 cm) containing saw-like edges that are often "Y" shaped and growing along the runners (rhizomes). One of the more prolific species and considered one of the better refugia species because of its abundant growth and being less prone to sexual reproduction disintegration. Another would be C. taxifolia, and possibly C. floridana.
