Range: Western Atlantic Ocean: Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, and also the Indian Ocean: Madagascar.
Natural Environment: Inhabits moderate to fairly turbulent water movement areas extending from sheltered areas with strong current flow to shallow to deep water on rough-water coastlines.
Aquarium Suitability: An extremely attractive alga attached by a single holdfast that is somewhat gelatinous with its branches filled with fluid that keeps it buoyant. Rarely seen in the hobby. Very hardy even in low light conditions, yet needs excellent water quality.
