Range: Norway to Africa, including adjacent islands (Azores, Canary Islands and Cape Verde) and the Mediterranean.

Size: Column width 4 inches (10 cm)

Natural Environment: Inhabits lower coastal rocky shorelines from depths of about 25 to 33 feet (8 - 10 m) and feeds upon zooplankton.

Aquarium Suitability: Tentacles are red, pink or purplish, with blue, white or pink wart like spots on its column. 

It is said in the winter these anemones migrate off shore to prevent from freezing.

Requires cool water and hand feeding, e.g., raw fish pieces, shrimp, black worms, and is especially fond of mussel flesh.

Two to three feedings per month suffices in cool water environments.

FYI: Some think it variation of A. equina, the beadlet anemone.

Temperature range of 50 to 68°F (10 - 20°C).

Unsuitable for tropical aquariums.

For those interested in maintaining a cool water aquarium, this species is quite hardy; otherwise, it should not be collected!
