Family Actiniidae

Condylactis auranitica

(Delle Chiaje, 1825)

Golden Anemone

Not Reef Tank Suitable

Not Suitable for Fish-Only Tank

Range: Sub-tropical Eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea.

Size: 10 inches (25 cm)

Natural Environment: Inhabits sandy and muddy bottom areas where only its tentacles are seen, as its column remains buried. Seen at depths between 6 to 300 feet (2 - 90 m).

General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 59 to 75°F (15 - 24°C). Requires somewhat cooler water and hand feeding, e.g., raw fish pieces, shrimp, black worms, and is especially fond of mussel flesh.

Two to three feedings per month suffices.

Taxonomy:

    Kingdom: Animalia

    Phylum: Cnidaria

    Class: Anthozoa

    Order: Actiniaria

    Family: Actiniidae

    Genus: Condylactis

FYI: Unsuitable for tropical aquariums as it does 'very' poorly above 75°F (24°C).

Does well in captivity if it has its own environment where it should not be maintained with even others in its own genus!
