Family Cerianthidae

Pachycerianthus borealis

(Verrill, 1873)

Atlantic Tube Anemone

Not Reef Tank Suitable

Not Suitable for Fish-Only Tank

Range: Atlantic Ocean: From Canada to Florida.

Size: 12 inches (30 cm)

Natural Environment: Inhabits coastal sandy bottom areas.

General Husbandry: Fairly common on the offshore areas of the eastern coast of the United States where it experiences a wide temperature range, e.g., 50 to 75°F (10 - 24°C).

Rarely seen in the trade, and probably better left in the wild, yet some aquarists have maintained this species, which seems to be quite durable if given a deep sandbed, e.g., 6 - 8 inches (15 - 20 cm) and fed meaty foods twice weekly.

Best suited for a special, possibly a single species environment that meets its own needs.

    Kingdom: Animalia

    Phylum: Cnidaria

    Class: Anthozoa
