Australogyra

Australogyra zelli

(Veron & Pichon, 1977)

Ruffle Coral, Ridge Coral, Branching Moon Coral

Likely Reef Tank Suitable

Likely Fish-Only Tank Suitable

Range: Indo-West Pacific Ocean: Indonesia, Tonga, Fiji, Solomon Islands and Australia.

Natural Environment: Inhabits turbid water high up in lagoons and generally seen at depths between 10 to 65 feet (3 - 20 m).

General Husbandry: Rarely seen in the trade.

Care should be taken as to its position in the aquarium, as this species is basically defenseless against other corals, even those that are not overly aggressive.

Even though fully capable of producing all its nutritional needs via photosynthesis, plankton-like foodstuffs fed occasionally may be beneficial/promote quicker growth.

A nice looking coral, and similar looking to Pavona species.
