Family Inachoididae

Stenorhynchus seticornis

(Herbst, 1788)

Arrow Crab

Likely Reef Tank Suitable

Likely Fish-Only Tank Suitable

Range: Tropical Western Atlantic from Florida to the Bahamas and the Caribbean.

Size: 6 inches (12.5 cm)

Natural Environment: Inhabits shallow reef areas and seen at depths between 10 to 30 feet (3 - 10 m).

General Husbandry: In the wild, often are found close to anemones, even stinging anemones, e.g., Bartolomea anulata, which they use for cover if danger approaches. They appear to be immune to their sting. They also like to hide in sponges.

As to diet, using a long handle tweezers, feeding meaty foods such as small pieces of marine fish/shrimp flesh, which can be dropped near the crab, or live fortified adult brine shrimp once weekly suffices. Otherwise, appears to dine on small micro-size crustaceans/small bristle/fire worms in the aquarium.
