Not Reef Tank Suitable
Not Suitable for Fish-Only Tank
Range: Eastern Pacific Ocean: California to Mexico.
Size: 6 inches (15 cm)
Natural Environment: Inhabits rocky intertidal areas.
General Husbandry: Occasionally seen in the trade.
Feeds mainly on crabs and clams, but will also consume fish and shrimp meat.
Best maintained in a well-established aquarium, as it is extremely sensitive to ammonia.
My favorite when it comes to keeping an octopus.
Taxonomy:
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Mollusca
Class: Cephalopoda
Order: Octopoda
Family: Octopodidae
Genus: Octopus
FYI: Must be maintained in an aquarium with a very secure covering. If not secure/has small opening, will crawl out and investigate surroundings outside the aquarium, and quickly die.
Have personally caught this species by simply reaching under rocks at low tide and grabbing the creature with the hand and then dropping it a 5 gallon pail. Usually given to local people for the dinner trade.
