Range: Eastern Central Pacific: Hawaii and Johnston Islands.
Size: 8 inches (20 cm)
Natural Environment: Inhabits deep sandy bottom areas in coastal reefs at depths between 100 to 600 feet (30 – 180 m) and feeds mainly on worms, crabs, shrimp and small fishes. Usually found at 200 foot depths (60 m).
General Husbandry: Has a whitish or reddish body depending upon the area in which it is seen and named for its golden yellow barbels. Has yet to be collected for the hobby due to it depth in the wild, and shown here for identification only.
