Range: Indo-West Pacific Ocean: Southern Japan to Line and Ducie Islands, south to Lord Howe and Rapa Islands, and throughout Micronesia.

Size: 24 inches (60 cm)

Natural Environment: Inhabits lagoon and protected reefs as juveniles, and seaward reefs as adults and usually found at depths between 3 – 200 feet (1 – 60 m) where it feeds mainly on algae.

General Husbandry: Colors vary between sexes and its stage of growth (phase). Not collected for the trade.
