Cladophora

Cladophora prolifera

(Roth) Kützing 1843

Tree Alga

Likely Reef Tank Suitable

Likely Fish-Only Tank Suitable

Range: Circumtropical

Natural Environment: Inhabits shallow pools, and also coastal rough-water areas where it's attached to rocks and rubble and having stiff, finely branched filaments that grow in irregular clumps.

Aquarium Suitability: This is an easy alga to maintain, and does best under bright lighting and impacted by moderate currents. Slow growing and once established, requires little care.

Yet once established, it can be difficult to fully rid the aquarium of all growths, nevertheless, yet it continues to be available in the trade.

Taxonomy:

    Kingdom: Plantae

    Phylum: Chlorophyta

    Class: Ulvophyceae

    Order: Cladophorales

    Family: Cladophoraceae

    Genus: Cladophora

FYI: It depends upon whom you ask, as some think it an invasive alga, while some like its appearance.
