Fauchea

Red Seaweed

Likely Reef Tank Suitable

Likely Fish-Only Tank Suitable

Range: Eastern Pacific Ocean: Baja California.

Natural Environment: Inhabits low intertidal and subtidal areas of the coast and often seen within kelp forests or on the rocky reefs.

General Husbandry: Has grown well in my reef aquariums under low light and moderate currents. My specimen did well for about eight months before quickly dissipating, which was maintained at about 78 degrees, possibly a little too high for this alga.

Taxonomy:

    Kingdom: Plantae

    Phylum: Rhodophyta

    Class: Florideophyceae

    Order: Rhodymeniales

    Family: Faucheaceae

    Genus: Fauchea
