Range: Indo-West Pacific Ocean: East Africa to Papua New Guinea, north to Southern Japan, south to New Caledonia.
Size: 5 inches (11 cm)
Natural Environment: Inhabits sandy areas among clumps of Sargassum/seaweeds and usually found between depths of 3 – 50 feet (1 – 15 m) where it mainly feeds upon filamentous algae, diatoms, small crustaceans, and somewhat on fish scales and mucus.
General Husbandry: Not collected for the trade.
