Range: Western Indian Ocean: Red Sea and Persian Gulf south to Mozambique, Aldabra and Madagascar.
Size: 7 inches (17 cm)
Natural Environment: Inhabits coastal shallow silty and mangrove areas and usually found at depths between 15 – 65 feet (5 – 20 m) where it feeds on small fishes and crustaceans/zooplankton during evening hours.
General Husbandry: Has a brownish grey body with a central upper body black spot edged in white, a pale vertical dark band on the aft body, and black on the caudal peduncle. As of 2016, not yet purposely collected for the trade.
