Range: Indo-West Pacific Ocean: Res Sea and East Africa to Pitcairn, north to Southern Japan, and south to Lord Howe and Rapa Islands.

Size: 10 inches (25 cm)

Natural Environment: Inhabits outer reef slopes and lagoon patch reefs, and found under ledges and in crevices during the day. Usually found at depths between 3 – 100 feet (1 – 30 m) where it feeds on small fishes and crustaceans/zooplankton during evening hours.

General Husbandry: Has elongated pale brown body with several darker brown and white horizontal stripes from the snout lengthwise, and also a dark blotch on the caudal peduncle. As of 2016, not collected for the trade.
