Range: Eastern Pacific Ocean: Monterey Bay to central Baja California, also the Hawaiian Islands.

Size: 10 inches (25 cm)

Natural Environment: Inhabits rocky bottom areas, kelp beds, and steep bank areas at depths between 6 to 150 feet (2 – 45 m) where it feeds mainly on planktonic crustaceans (copepods, mysis, and shrimp larvae), fish eggs, and algae.

General Husbandry: Quite drab, having blackish body.

Not purposely collected for the hobby.

Caution – may occasionally be listed in the trade as an ‘Assorted Damselfish.’
