Range: Indo-West Pacific Ocean: East Africa to Hawaiian, Line and Pitcairn Islands, and north to Japan.
Size: 2 inches (6 cm)
Natural Environment: Inhabits surge zones on seaward reefs at depths between 3 to about 50 feet (1 – 15 m) and feeds on benthic invertebrates and algae.
General Husbandry: Not normally seen in the trade, as its not overly attractive, having a silvery body with yellow on the caudal peduncle.
Should be housed in aquaria having swift water movements/surges, and lots of hiding places, as its somewhat shy.
As to diet, a meaty diet, e.g., live fortified brine shrimp and/or finely chopped various frozen or fresh meaty foods such as mysis, squid, fish flesh, shrimp, clam and plant material, e.g., flake foods, especially those containing Spirulina should be offered several times daily.
