Range: Western Indian Ocean: Red Sea, Comoros and Reunion, also southern Oman, Somalia, and the Maldives.

Size: 4 inches (11 cm)

Natural Environment: Inhabits cave areas in deep rocky reefs and generally found at depths of about 100 feet (30 m) during daytime hours and ascends during evening hours to about 3 – 50 feet (1 -15 m) to feed on small fishes and crustaceans.

General Husbandry: Quite drab, having an overall blackish coloration and a photophore located just below each eye. Not collected for the trade.
