By far one of the most abundant seagrasses. In fact, Turtle Grass is the largest and most robust seagrass in Florida and the Caribbean. Leaves are ribbon-like, about .5 inch wide and up to 14 inches (35 cm) long. Turtle grass will grow in water up to 85 feet (25 m) deep and with salinities as low as 20 ppt. Nonetheless, it prefers shallower water up to 33 feet (10 m) and salinities between 25 - 40 ppt. It is the dominant seagrass in most estuaries in Florida.
