These fishes belong in the Order Ophidiiformes as members of the Family Ophidiidae, which include Livebearing Brotulas. They are quite similar in behavior to Brotuls, which are highly secretive, mostly nocturnal and eat anything they can fit into their mouths. They propel themselves by undulating their dorsal and anal fins.
